Biography
Reed focuses his practice in the areas of family law and estate planning, while specializing in the drafting of Prenuptial Agreements and Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs). He is licensed to practice in South Carolina and New York. In addition to his law degree, Reed has an undergraduate degree in economics, a graduate degree in accounting, and has passed the Uniform CPA exam.
With each case and each drafted agreement, Reed strives to achieve the best solution possible for his clients, with an emphasis given to the longer-term. A short-term “win” means little if it results in longer-term loss or proves unworkable for the parties. With his business background and knowledge of tax and trust law, Reed delivers exceptional value when the settlement or prenuptial agreement involves complex property divisions. A knowledge of business structures, tax basis, and future taxable gain is crucial when negotiating these agreements. Reed also understands that while his client’s financial security is a primary goal, ending a marriage or negotiating a prenuptial agreement can carry with it deep emotions for the individuals involved. He approaches all his clients with empathy and understanding.
Reed graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina School of Law where he received CALI awards as the top-scoring student in Estate Planning; Estate & Gift Tax; and Race, Class & Education, and was a co-recipient of the Albert C. Todd, III Estate Planning Award.
